When you add a domain name as hosted in some account, you typically set a pair of Name Servers to point it to that particular service provider. On their end, 3 records are set up automatically when the domain name is added - one A record and two MX records. The first one is a numeric address, or IP address, that “tells” the domain address where its website is, while the other two are alphanumeric and they indicate the server that handles the e-mails for that particular domain. The site and the e-mail hosting are generally regarded as one thing, while they are actually two different services. Having separate records for them will permit you to have them with different providers if you wish. As an illustration, some new service provider could have outstanding uptime for your site, but you might not want to switch your emails from your current host and by employing an A record to point the domain to the first and MX records to have the e-mails with the latter, you can get the best of both companies. These records are checked when you want to open a site or send an e-mail - in either case, the company whose name servers are used for the domain name will be contacted to retrieve the A and MX records and if you've set records different from their own, the right web/mail server will then be contacted and you'll see the needed website or your email is going to be delivered.

Custom MX and A Records in Shared Hosting

If you have a Linux shared package through our company, you're going to be able to view, set up and change any A or MX record for your Internet addresses. As long as a specific Internet domain has our Name Servers, you'll be able to change particular records via our Hepsia hosting Control Panel and have your site or emails pointed to another provider if you would like to use only one of our services. Our leading-edge tool will permit you to have a domain name hosted here and a subdomain below it to be hosted elsewhere by modifying only its A record - this will not affect the main domain address at all. If you decide to use the e-mail services of a different service provider and they want you to create more than two MX records, you can easily do that with simply a couple of mouse clicks through the DNS Records section of your CP. You can also set different latency for every single MX record i.e. which one will have priority.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

The Hepsia hosting Control Panel, which comes with our Linux semi-dedicated packages, allows you to see the A and MX records for any of the domain addresses or subdomains in your account and if required, to edit any of them or create new ones. Controlling these records is very easy because all domains/subdomains will be listed alphabetically, so modifying a record is as simple as entering it in a box and saving the change. Creating a new one takes only a few more clicks and if you experience any troubles, you can check out our educational videos on how to set up A and MX records. Our system is intuitive enough to be used by individuals with no previous experience, yet sophisticated enough to give you 100 % control of all records and to permit you to have different A records even for domain.com and www.domain.com. If you're pointing your e-mails to a different service provider and they ask you to set up more than two different MX records, you can select the priority of each one.
