Whenever a page on your site does not load, an error message shall be shown to the visitor. Since there are different errors, there are different pages that'll show up, but what is typical for all of them is that they're generic and in all probability shall have nothing that resembles the design of your Internet site, which could be frustrating for any site visitor. That is the main reason why web hosting companies have introduced a function known as Custom Error Pages. For a range of different errors, website visitors will see your custom content, which may be informative or humorous, depending on your taste, and which shall match the layout of your Internet site, so the pages shall not seem like they are not part of your Internet site at all. You may use this option for a number of errors - 400 (Bad request), 401 (Unauthorized), 403 (Forbidden) and 404 (File not Found).

Custom Error Pages in Shared Hosting

If you purchase a Linux shared package from us, you shall be able to set customized error pages for your websites quickly and easily, because this function is part of all our packages. After you've created the files and uploaded them to your web hosting account, you can go to the Hosted Domains section of your Hepsia Control Panel and click on the Edit button for the particular domain or subdomain. Inside the pop-up that will be displayed, you'll see drop-down menus for all 4 sorts of errors and for each one of them you can select an Apache default page, a generic page from our system or a custom made page. If you pick the third option, you should only type the URL to the file that you've uploaded then save the change. One other way to set personalized error pages is to create an .htaccess file in the domain or subdomain folder and to add a few lines of program code in it. If you do not have previous experience or if you are just not sure how to do this, you could just copy and paste the code from our Knowledge Base article on that subject.

Custom Error Pages in Semi-dedicated Hosting

When you host your Internet sites in a semi-dedicated server account with us, you may set customized error pages for each of them easily via our in-house created Hepsia hosting CP. With just several clicks inside the Hosted Domains section, you could edit the default setting from a system page to a custom made one for any of the four error types. All you need to do is supply a link to each and every file you have uploaded before that and then save the change. If needed, you shall be able to revert this customization at any time and in exactly the same way. If you wish, you can use an .htaccess file as well. It should be created/uploaded inside the domain or subdomain folder related to the website whose error pages you would like to alter and the content for this type of file can be found in our Help article for this matter.
